Dream Big, Do More!
What if we failed to achieve the goal?
Why do we always set a goal and fail? Why do we always leave it halfway? No no no, instead of being so negative, we should wonder “ How can we take it all the way? “ To fail is easy, we all have been there. We always have so many goals we want to achieve. We always have so many things on the bucket list that we want to check off. However, with just a little time and a lack of consistency, we’ve left so many regrets in our life. Let’s be positive, we either achieve goals or at least we learn, right? So if we fail, please do not give up so soon, let’s make a little adjustment.
We first need to understand what we should adjust when we fail to achieve a goal. Is it the deadline we set, the plan we made, or the goal itself?
The most crucial thing about a goal is that it’s a dream with a deadline. We should always change the plan, not the date we set to achieve, nor our goals. We should never decrease the goal but increase the effort instead. The direction is clear, so just walk firmly to your goal, and never look back.
You may wonder maybe you are not made for this, even if you tried so hard and still failed. That’s possible, then you may need to modify your goal. Iceland’s double CrossFit Games Champion, Annie Thorisdottir once said: “ Don’t give up on your dream, but modify it if you need to. “
Before she participated in CrossFit, she was doing gymnastics at a competitive level but she would have never made it to the Olympics. She said she just didn’t have the build for it. But that wouldn’t have had to be the end of it, she could have gone into group gymnastics or specialized in a certain discipline within gymnastics if her dream was to get to the Olympics.”
In 2017, she went into the CrossFit Games, and she got 3rd place, and yet, she kept training and now she is the only woman to win CrossFit Games twice. Like she said: “DREAM BIG, DO MORE!”
It’s okay if you put all your effort into a plan and soon realize you will never achieve your goal, then you could either try a few more times or find a new way that is also related to the thing that you have been passionate about, the thing that you still wish you could achieve at a certain level.
Let’s be honest, sometimes some people are just born for something, they have the advantage since the date they were born. Michael Fred Phelps, the most decorated athlete in Olympic history with 28 medals, was born with the perfect body for swimming, and yet if it wasn’t for consistent training, he may not achieve such glorious accomplishments. So we should all dream big and do more. Don’t give up on your goal, your dream, but you may modify it if you need.
How to level up the mindset?
There’re a lot of books telling us “Yes you can do it!” but the most important thing that we all need to figure out is "How can we keep doing it?"
The most essential character among all the successful people is that they are all resilient. Never quit anything easily, if you are not good at something, you only can get better, that’s why consistency is important. As you constantly move forward, it’s impossible to not make any progress. So getting rid of all-or-nothing thinking is important. The setbacks are expected, failure is no sign of weakness. It’s a good chance to reassess your plan.
In addition, we all need a mentor, a guide. For instance, if you want to bake, you need to learn from cookbooks or backers. It’s just simple like that, always learn from professionals. Humans have been doing this for thousands of years, we either achieve the goal or we learn something, and then we pass the experience to those who are interested in the field. We pass on skills to our offspring. This is inheritance. As a result, the point of goal setting sometimes is not to achieve it, it’s who we become on the way to it. Level up your thoughts, it also helps you achieve something greater.
Last but not least, always remind yourself of the feeling of achievement. We may feel like life is shortened when we are chasing a specific dream. It’s simply because you get busy, get tired. It takes up almost all of your time. However, we always enjoy most of the success we make. It’s joyful, you may feel more confident even if it’s just a little success. Unfortunately, humans are insatiable. Soon you will realize ending a goal only means moving forward to another. Consequently, remind yourself of the bittersweet feelings in each process. Remind yourself of those good days.
Research made by Megan E. Speer & Mauricio R. Delgado (2017) published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour, indicates that Recalling happy memories elicits positive feelings and enhances one’s well-being. So on our way to the great achievement, we also need to remind ourselves of those good days, it’s quite helpful to bring up a healthy mindset. It levels up your mindset and boosts your morale. A positive mindset is a key to success.
Now let’s review what we learn today.
